The Rila Monastery

The Monastery of Saint John of Rila, better known as the Rila Monastery is the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. It is situated at an altitude of 1100 m in the north-western Rila Mountains in the deep valley of the Rilska River, 120 km south of Sofia.

Plovdiv

Plovdiv1Plovdiv, the second largest city in Bulgaria, is situated 150 km to the southeast of the capital city Sofia, on three hills rising up the Thracian plain and washed by the quietly flowing waters of Maritza River. The unique treasure from its 24 centuries long history is preserved there, as well as brilliant examples of the Bulgarian National Revival Period.

Melnik

The town of Melnik is the smallest town in Bulgaria with just 230 permanent residents. It is in the southwestern slopes of the Pirin mountain, 23 km away from the town of Sandanski and about 180 km to the south of Sofia.

It is famous for its world known thick and aromatic wines and fantastic rock for-mations.
